The EMW Team wishes you a blessed Advent season

This year EMW has again supported numerous charitable projects in the Diez region. In this section, we would like to present you a selection of these projects.

In 1995, located in Diez on the Lahn river, the Albert Schweitzer family foundation (a non-profit and an independent institution) set a goal of helping children, adolescents and their families who are in difficult situations.

As a result, the home it established last year near Diez offers space for up to nine children, who for various reasons have to leave their families for a period of time or for a longer term. Due to popular demand, another communal home is being planned to be built in 2012. Investment has also been made in premises to provide outpatient support for children and families.

The VITA Association is a non-profit organisation which provides assistance dogs for children and adults with physical disabilities to help give them more independence and a better quality of life.

An assistance dog can open and close doors, help pick up certain objects and on command, can turn on light switches, get help, assist with undressing and shopping and more.

Children in particular are very happy to learn how to take care of their four- legged friends and in doing so develop a sense of responsibility and self-confidence.

Through our donation, we have assisted VITA in setting up a new meeting and training room at their training centre in Hümmerich.

We are all doing well. Or are we? Unfortunately, the answer is NO! There are people who are struggling in our prosperous society for a daily meal. Tafel provides food which supermarkets or shops no longer need and would otherwise be destroyed - food which is in perfectly acceptable condition. This food is collected from these shops by Tafel volunteer workers and distributed, for example, to people in Diez who are financially struggling.

There are 49 volunteers currently active in the Diez field office providing help for 218 needy individuals and families, thereunder 68 children.

We look forward to continually supporting the hard work of the above institutions. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a very successful New Year!
