Future innovation managers from Ongoing Professional Education Center explore real-world practice at EMW filtertechnik GmbH

In keeping with their school's motto, "as much theory as necessary, as much practice as possible", students from MZM (Management-Zentrum Mittelrhein / Central Rhine Management Centre) visited EMW filtertechnik GmbH in Diez to gather information about development and marketing strategies currently employed by EMW. An intensive exchange of thoughts ensued concerning organization and implementation of innovative management. As stated by EMW's development manager Norbert Fischer: "Implementation of innovations in our organization ranges from ongoing development on up to new developments with an extremely high degree of innovation". He explained that it is important to first categorize existing ideas with regard to their market potential and liklihood of realization before then transforming them to products providing maximum benefit to customers.

EMW products are used in highly diverse applications. One key product sector is inlet air filtration for gas turbines in power generating plants; another important product family is microorganism-activated carrier matrixes for use in biological wastewater treatment. As summarized by EMW's Marketing Manager Florian Winkler: "We attach utmost importance to an ongoing dialogue with our customers in our core segments, allowing us to learn from field experience and effectively realize improvement potential." This approach is highly appreciated by customers in the marketplace, as shown by the high demand for EMW's products and EMW's constantly improving competitive position.

The visit of the prospective innovation managers was concluded with an intensive exchange of thoughts and information. Kirsten Placha from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of the nearby city of Koblenz saw the visit as a successful exchange of views between practical problem-solvers: "Without a doubt, different approaches can be employed to effectively realize innovations in companies. Regardless of the approach used, it must be preceded by a dialogue permitting gathering of ideas. The intent of practice-oriented visits like this to companies in our region is to enable our students to conduct this type of dialogue."
